Has anyone got a design for a Star of David, preferably with RI 1.76, I can source one with the star on the crown, but I'm looking to have a frosted design in the pavilion.
Cheers in advance
Gordon :)

G'day Excalibur63,

here are some links that you can search facet designs in

this one has the Star of David with RI for quartz- you can easily adjust the angles to allow for the RI for corundum

http://www.gemologyproject.com/wiki/index.php?title=Faceting_Designs - do a "data base" search using the name Star of David.

This link has 6 different designs titled Star of David - there are both frosted Crowns & Frosted Pavillions

http://facetdiagrams.org/database/ search under the design name

You may also find this link useful for sourcing facet designs

Cheers Doug :)

Thanks both for your suggestions, have scoured all but one of these sites to no avail, however "gram facets" looks exciting, even have Celtic cross designs. www.mariah.stonemarche.org has one but the star in in the crown, I'm cutting this now, whilst I find a design that has it in the pavilion, thanks again guys for your feed back.

Did you find this one Dughug was referring to? The star is on the pavilion. http://www.gemologyproject.com/wiki/index.php?title=Bienia_-_SOD

Also the link you put up does not appear to work.

Mr Magoo,

that was from the first of the links I put up the other link to facetDiagrams . org shows some designs that may be copyright & not on the public domain.

Cheers

Mr Magoo,
I have seen the "star David" design, as the pavilion is so deep, I'm not sure whether the angles for Corundum will transpose well, as this design is for RI1.54(quartz etc) and Corundum (Sapphire etc) is RI 1.76, I maybe wrong, can anyone transpose this design for RI 1.76?

Sorry about the link, try this one:

Cheers

Gordon,

a simple way to adjust the angles is to look at the difference in Crown angle & Pavilion angle for the different materials.

In the case of the design you want to work on Quartz @ RI 1.64 has a suggested Crown angle of 41 & Pavilion angle of 42

Corundum RI 1.76 suggested Crown angle 38 & Pavilion angle 42

so all you need to do is reduce the quoted Crown angles of the design by 3 ( the difference between the materials) and leave the pavilion the same as the diagram you have. (There is no difference in this case of the pavilion angles between different materials)

Very simple & it works. Alternatively enter it into Gemcad with the material with RI 1.76

good luck with the transposition of angles

Thanks DG,

As you can see, I'm only a novice cutter, and wasn't aware the pavilion angles are the same for Quartz & Corundum, this means in this design the star facets will remain balanced when viewed through the table. I'll have a crack at it after the Fred Van Sant design.

Haven't tackled GemCad as yet, is it a free program?

The old dos version is free if you can find a copy of it (and have it run with dosbox), but the most recent one is not.
