I am trying to pick the best detector from the new generation of machines.

Do you people have opinions or links on field tests between OKM X4 , Black hawk , Notka Golden King , JeoHunter etc ?

The only information i found on Bionic X4 is youtube videos that i rate as " pathetic "

Where can i find genuine opinions or test outcomes please of the best machines out there ?

The OKM X4 is about $ 14,000

KellyCo list them for sale and they are one of the bigger gold equipment dealers in the states

any thoughts ?

Hi all,

Mark, make sure you see proof that the brands mentioned in your post can handle the highly mineralised here in Australia. If none is forthcoming hang on to your cash (and buy a Minelab) high prices, outragous claims, and flash web sites don't nessesarily mean a good product.

There are plenty of rip off merchants out there who would love to see you and your hard earned cash part ways.

Jim & Kerrie

Hi Mark, I totally agree with what Jim says, and ask yourself if they were that good and that much better , wouldn't all the professional prospectors such as Jack Lang and Jonathon Porter be using them ! The Minelab gpx 5000 is considered to be the best in the world and its reputation is well earned ! And as Jim says the mineralisation here in parts of Oz is extremely high and most of the American machines are made and calibrated for American ground conditions.I think that most detectorists would tell you to save yourself the 8 grand you would pay for fancy looking screens and readouts etc and get the gpx5000 for around the 6 grand mark and have a top of the range machine that will find you gold here in Australia. By the way i am not affiliated in any way with Minelab . I would just hate to see someone paying that much money out for something that wouldnt do the same job. Hope this helps and i am sure that most of the guys and gals on the forum will agree. All the best mate whatever you decide
Bill

thanks people.

i am looking for a GPX5000 but as they dont often come up second hand then i will probably get a new one.

After reading the blurbs on some of the modern machines the optimist in me expects that the newer technologies might develop in to something in the near future but for now there is an odour of stinkiness around at least one of those companies.

good luck to you gents

These 'contraptions', for want of a better word, are of coarse a complete CON and simply are not metal detectors or gold detectors in any way. They are designed and made for the sole purpose of conning people out of money.

It so surprises me that there is not an international full boycott of KellyCo by all the detector company's, Minelab, Garrett, Tesoro ect. Along with detectorists world wide.

KellyCo, as a part of this Scam, should be ostricsed as a buisness by all.

I learnt a long time ago that more often then not tried and true methods tools and techniques win hands down over new ideas as now a days the people coming up with these products are really only in it to turn a profit. And that goes for more then just prospecting, its the same in the music industry, the vehicle industry hell even the toy industry lol. Sure todays gear has alot more bells and whistles but the only ones you can rely on are those brands that have been doing it for generations.

Yes . surprising that a store as big as kellyco would risk having their name shat on by selling and endorsing the OKM products

I emailed kellyco and all they did was send me a copy of the OKM blurb word for word.

By the sounds of it you are willing to part with 14 grand for a detector that no known person uses in Australia, but as a back up plan you are looking to buy a second hand 5000 instead of buying a new one which is your third choice, does not make sense to me?

A fool and his money are soon parted..

Don't bother with the okm, I'll sell you a calculator with a aerial glued to it for much much less money. Say... $3k! Just as good as an okm but cheaper!

Seriously, buy a 5000, proven tech that is finding good gold daily.

the original post was made 3 months ago when i was looking at EVERYTHINGin the market . worldwide.

You would be surprised at how many manufacturers are out there with "developing technology" that could be getting close to the GPX5000 but there are no reviews or side by side tests against the minelab

sometimes people can be a tad myopic but i like to keep my eyes and ears , and my mind , open to new things

There is a machine made " overseas " that has found gold to 8 metres , but has never been tested in mineralised ground that we have as far as i know .

I am keeping open to all knowledge

Care to share?

The "Gaireet" from the Shenzhen Gaireet Technology Co., Ltd. detects to 6-8m depth.

Their logo looks similar to Garrett?

I won't put a link up here as its obviously a scam. If its not I don't want one - bugger digging a 8m hole (by hand) I reckon

I have a friend that purchased a gold machine called a "Gold Seeker" it was a big electronic box that you sit in the field and you had to walk around in circles with pieces of wire in your hands whilst waiting for the wire to do magical things, once signals were recieved you had to put markings on the ground and do a whole heap of cross references

He only used it once ,he gave up after he dug down over 2 meters

The sad thing it was well over $3000 US

The sader thing it was 1982 when he made the purchase

The sadest thing he is a gemologist.

He also showed me his awsome detector -a unused bounty hunter LOL

Hi guys, new to this forum and found it while googling okm. Not really interested in gold or metal hunting as i have a minelab for that but im interested in the okm style detectors for their (claimed) ability to find non ferrous objects and voids as i travel to greece every year for a month to participate in an archaeological dig and something like these would be very useful for detecting if stone walls we have found continue outside the trench area and for other information besides having to dig many trenches. I see these okm often ridiculed for their gold hunting ability but are they any good for detecting non metal objects and voids? Is there any such device available or is it all bunkem? Someone posted above "These are not used in australia so that proves they dont work" but im wondering if thats just because no one has actually tried them. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has first hand experience of these or knows of any similar devices for detecting objects and voids below the surface.

gondenboi,

They are not "ridiculed for their gold hunting ability" as much as laughed at for the scam they are. They're literally a fraud, a scam, they don't do what they're claimed to, they're essentially a calculator with some wires stuck into it to make it look technical and sophisticated. I don't know how else to say this.

If you're looking for disturbed ground or subsurface voids, you could consider GPR (ground-penetrating radar).

the company doesnt reply to emails

there are many internet reviews from people who dont work for OKM , that say the machines are absolute garbage.

there are people who have bought one and found it does zero but the company doesnt honour warranty issues

there are genuine ground radar scanners you could rent that would work , suggest talking to a specialist geotech company to see which rentals work best

stashes of gold will still be found in some of those hidden voids

good luck

Thanks mate.Amazing they can still sell such snake oil in a (supposedly 1st world) country like Germany.I mean in Oz the ACCC would shut them down after a few compliants so you'd think in a country like the GDR the same would apply. Anyway what you say is similar to what ive found on the web regarding OKM which is a shame. Ill do some more research into GPR. thanks

They advertise these things as ground penetrating radar, when really they are just cheap, overpriced magnetometers with fancy displays. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who sells long range gold detectors, is selling overpriced junk that spouts ads with techno speak to make it sound good, and a high price to try and give it some credibility. Check out the link below.

http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showthread.php?15985-OKM

If you are serious about looking for tombs, cavities etc, look for references on what is used in the field in places like Egypt by the professionals, proper ground penetrating radar systems. Having used a fair bit of Geophysical and surveying gear in the past, including Magnetometers, IP, EM and Trimble survey gear, you either get gear that is tried and tested, with proper credibility, or nothing at all. If OKM geat was that good, there should be glowing reports all over the place, but all I can find is tales of woe, with lots of wasted money. Problem is, they prey on sales to novices vs professionals, who really don't know what they are buying, netherlone the technology behind the gear.

Maybe something like these would be more suitable, but no doubt expensive - renting gear would be the best option, and most renters are very helpful with training and the setting up of the gear.
