A recut this time.

A citrine, with a cut typical from Asia/middle east, it had a huge window (it still has, but less disturbing) and it showed nearly no brilliance.
I lost 1mm (LxW went from 11x11mm to 10x10) in the process of recutting, but the stone is much more appealing now.

That's an incredible improvement, makes me want to get some of my citrines cut.

G'day all,

You guys might remember seeing this stone before: it's an authentic Braz paraiba tourmaline that I had cabbed a while ago.

Well I wasn't satisfied with both the finish and the clarity, so after thoroughly inspecting it and confirming it had better potential, I re-cut it, and I'm glad I did.

First no more surface fractures, and second a much better clarity and shine. For what it's worth, the crystal was 8 cts and the finished cab is 2 cts, giving a decent 25% yield, not phenomenal but the quality is way better than it was at 50% yield (first cut). I'll see if my jeweler of a sister is keen to mounting it onto, say, a ring (unless someone chimes in for a quote).

While I'm still at cabs, I'm also considering bringing something exclusively French to the market  , more on that later (need to stock up before revealing ;) )

Cheers :)

that is some wicked work man, it love to get a trillion cut in amethyst from you if possible

Can do. What size is the stone ? Tried a few trillion in quartz , almost all look good . But my favorite needs to be at least 10mm to be able to work it . Will yours make that size or larger ?

Insane Kingsolomon! How many facets?

..you must play acoustic guitar with fingernails like that
Yeah I do , but don't cut nails cause need to hold small stone to preform , the lap keeps them trimmed just enough to make me not look Like a freak , yet make up for it in other ways with my appearance :)

i dont have the stone so was hoping you might have something? It doesnt have to be amethyst. I would like it to be around 15mm, what would something like that be worth? feel free to pm me

If want me to get something or use some of my rough no problem , 15 mm is an awesome size . I will look what I have and get back to you . But if want amythest that size might cost around , up to $100 just for rough of good color .

The 5 orange ones on the left are zircons and the 5 on the right are sapphires.

Not too sure which one to get cut next, that might be the decision of the missus :)
