Just last weekend I watched a bloke using a Trommel at Slaty, his battery setup was lightweight and it did seem like a fun alternative to a highbanker (a lot quieter as well) Are many folk here using one? Did you buy it or make it?

Nsw won't let me use one :argh:

Same for HighBankers I think. We could be heading the same way, I actually spotted a dude using a dredge in a banned creek only a week or so ago.

Won't be long before someone uses electricity on one of these, as they pull the water up(not push like a pump)

There is no ban on HighBankers in NSW. The ban is on all petrol/electric water pumps. You can still use a banker as long as there is no water pump attached to the banker.

Ok I have just learn't something, thanks ....... (wind power)

What state are you in Data?
Each state has differing rules & if you're in Victoria, as I'm assuming (Slaty Creek Vic.), then lucky for you Victoria is the last state standing when it comes to using powered processing equipment like highbankers, trommels etc. without some type of tenement. N.T allow it also although both Victoria & N.T don't allow any excavation or collection of material by powered means.

Generally under basic Miners Rights, Fossicking Permits or Fossicking Rules NSW, Qld., Tasmania, SA & WA only allow the use of hand operated equipment. No powered equipment at all. (Metal detectors are specifically exempt from classification of being powered).

Yep. good old Victoria for me, to be honest I am happy to play around with my new Gold Rat 6 inch river sluice, even further, just a pan and a bait pump. I am in two minds about highbankers', probably best to keep my opinions to my self at this point. However compared to the frame mounted dredge I recently came across in a banned creek .....well?? Thing is the dredge operator stated he only lifts from the bottom of the creek, where as many highbankers' are quite often digging into the bank of the creeks and doing far more damage. Things do get complicated fast! Regarding the bloke operating the Trommel, he stated he never finds much Gold, he then showed me the track he uses every time and where he sets up every time. It occurred to me, this is closer to mining than prospecting, myself, I am happy to walk the creek and jump in the water and bait pump to discover what's below. One person recently stated "Prospecting is like a game of hide and seek" I tend to agree, to solve the mystery/question of "is there gold behind that log in the creek, or on that bend" is the thrill. Talk about good fun, so far my ten dollar pan has found way more Gold than my one thousand plus metal detector, actually, one hundred percent more. But I am working on changing that. yet here we are .....with all that rain ......ummm
