Another lockdown project. Some of the more ornate and personal things I've found.

And nice clear photo's too.... brilliant collection from yesteryear :perfect:

Thats a beautiful collection alright......they could tell some stories for sure.
I have found a similar piece to the marked one in this pic. What do you suppose it was used for, a hair ornament or clasp/broach.

These pieces are pretty hard to retrieve without doing damage, so go easy if you see the edge of one in your hole. :D

First they go in the Ultrasonic machine, then its just a fine brass wire brush followed by toothbrush and Brasso or Autosol.... then polish up. :sunny:
Detectist may have a different method.

Nice brooch. Great condition.

I think it is a brooch. Pretty heavy but could have been for hair too I suppose but thought that it'd look better as a brooch.

Nice clean up. What did you use/method.

Thank you

The first thing I do and use my thumbs and fingers to gently move the encrusted dirt. As I haven't normally gone beyond this step until just recently I've not worried too much about other techniques. But this time, apart from toothpicks, toothbrush and battery toothbrush I also use an ultrasonic cleaner, Andre Pencils (love the nylon addition), and even magic sponges. It depends on the item and how difficult and fragile it is.
