Back in 2006 managed to pick up a dead Yanmar 3KVA for a song.
Stripped it down and found previous owner had run it out of oil, destroying crankshaft and big end bearing.
Took some delving but found another crankshaft that required a few minor machining alterations.
Length of taper and thread in end of shaft to secure direct drive alternator.
Honed the bore and rebuilt with necessary bearings and gaskets etc etc.
Has served our camp well (power & lighting) up until this year but has now developed a severe vibration so we will have to bring it home and give it another overhaul.
