Thanks for the input brendomac.
The bottom of the land slopes down into a gully that splits into two branches then both feed into a bigger creek system.
I have had the idea for a while to build a small dam across one the two branches to create a water reservoir, just havent had the opportunity to go back to do anything with the travel ban/lockdowns.

Saw a conversion for a hand pump on You Tube . You need a motor and a gear box . Put some cranks on the gear box and rods to the top .

This is a 3/4 inch diaphragm pump that I made , a number of years ago . Never used it much , had some spare time at work .....
To work , the intake and the delivery both have to have non return valves in the line . It has a hand crank on at the moment , I did have in a frame with a paddle wheel to drive it . The idea was to put it in the creek and pump water up to my camp. It has a displacement of 250 mls. so if is turned at 100 rpm it will move 2.5 lts per min . under idea conditions . So that is 150 lts. per hour or 3,600 lts per 24 hours . Divide all those figures by 2 for 50 rpm !

Photos not the best , it was made out of grey PVC , which I can weld .

just an update on the pump jack build ..
Sorry for the :poop: picture ..
Ill try and get a better one later..

self-acting hydraulic ram pump. We use a very similar design in oil and gas

Moving water has been a challenge for farmers since time immemorial. Water wants to flow downhill, and often, you need it to flow uphill. Your animals need it. Your garden needs it. Your family needs it. So for centuries, when people needed water uphill, they laboriously hauled it there. But in the late 1700s, a Frenchman named Joseph Montgolfierimproving upon a slightly earlier patentplaced a valve on the pump that made it self-acting and made the water able to move itself. Thus, the self-acting hydraulic ram pump was born.

This clever device doesnt require electricity but uses the force of water to move the water, so as you can imagine, it was a wildly popular tool throughout the 1800s. Although it fell out of favor when steam and electric pumps were invented, its making a comeback among sustainable farmers. The pumps take little maintenance, have great longevity and can be highly efficient. In fact, in some ways, this devices ability to move water without the help of any outside energy, day and night, might make it the closest weve come to a perpetual motion machine!

As I said, we use a very similar design in oil and gas! Google is your friend

Nucopia , I could suggest to put some small corner braces on the frame . On the long sides . It will make it a lot stronger , flat bar would do .

Pump Jack is finished and working bought water drums faucets and hoses so that they can water the vegetables.
