Bought 1 kg. of frozen small prawns . Got them home and then read the small print , from China ......

A found a bit about it, supposed to be temporary according to this extract,
"A spokesperson for Mars Wrigley Australia, the company behind Snickers, tells 9Honey the iconic bar is being temporarily sourced offshore to accommodate a major $40 million upgrade to its Australian facility. "We've been making products in Australia for more than 100 years."

Have to be careful about some stuff being labeled from New Zealand which is straight from China, especially Seafood.

I bought some frozen veggies recently, and I always try to buy Australian grown stuff to support Aussie farmers. While I was fishing out the different makes and veggie mixes from the supermarket freezer, I came across one pack that said on the back "Made in New Zealand from local and imported ingredients", absolutely nothing about percentages or what countries their imported veggies came from. :|

The Mars factory is one of the big industries in Ballarat (along with McCains and some other food company).

Wrigleys, Snickers, Harley-Davidson motorbikes..............to name a few. One in five things we use are made in China. Suggest you dont knock Mars they have been a good Australian employer in Ballarat for decades. It is difficult to avoid buying Chinese goods - China is Australias most important partner for imports. In 2017/18 Australia bought $71.3 billion worth of goods and services from China. The Chinese goods we buy the most are telecom equipment and parts ($8.5 billion), computers ($6.5 billion), furniture, mattresses and cushions ($3.3 billion) and prams, toys, games and sporting goods ($2.6 billion).

And yes, the comment about Chinese seafood being "packed" in NZ is quite correct (I only buy Australian seafood, as the country of origin is displayed in supermarkets).

G'day

I am very careful to read the labels on all food products now, since I discovered that many of the things like canned fruit from both coles and woolworths comes from china, we used to buy some of it as it was packed in Australia but since the issue with the chinese frozen fruit killing people I wont touch anything they produce, we produce some of the best products in the world here in Australia so why the hell would people buy the second rate crap from who knows where to eat?, its a bit like playing russian roulette.

cheers

Interesting, I thought all imported prawns were banned after QLD's prawn industry was severely impacted from disease ridden imported prawns being used a fishing bait. I wonder did these slip through the cracks?
