Newbie question,

If you are finding small specs of fine alluvial gold in an area (creek) is it likely that detecting around the area would find anything or is it just usually the fine stuff that's too small to detect?

Never know unless you give it a go. Some areas are fine gold only, some have a mixture of sizes and others have a nugget or nothing. Researching whether nuggets have been found there in the past can help but only thoroughly detecting the area will tell you for sure.

Sample your way upstream until the colour has some body to it, hope there are old alluvial workings feeding it..
