Back to my favourite old farm today and turned up a doozie....
A cracker of a brass horse ornament or toy...stoked to recover something so cool

Todays finds....
Thought I had snagged a oval medallion when this popped out, but when I cleaned it up it turned out to be a squashed George V penny.
I was detecting around an old railway siding so someone was having fun with their pennies {)



Heres my brass horse after a cleanup.

Found a couple of flecks in a spare 5mins at a river I've been wanting to scope out for a while. Can't wait to get back out there again soon! :goldpan:

Some cleaned up mystery items from todays hunt.
Any clues on this button would be appreciated.

Also this mangled medallion is odd... too light for silver unfortunately. Any clues?


And finally, a mystery brass pulley.

Looks like a scouts button, the medallion maybe the Endeavour, interesting finds

Could the little pulley be part of an old Meccano set?

Youre probably right Manpa.... kind of remember something similar from my early childhood Meccano set.
Although I couldnt find that exact one in any old catalogues.

Looks like rose gold, not sure of the carats..... any ideas on this hallmark.

Apparently this is a medallion commemorating the re-enactment of the Mayflowers original crossing of the Atlantic in 1620.
The replica Mayflower sailed from Devon to Massachusetts in 1957.

Yep, never know what oddity will be in the next hole, and researching what it is and how it got there just adds to the entertainment.

Awesome find, mate. I've not really tried relic hunting, but when you say park, do you mean like local parks? I'm in WA and have started researching some old ghost town locations but a friend said just try random local parklands and the like, so I'm keen to hear any (broad) advice? Thanks.

If you have access to public parks in your local area, then thats what I mean. Just make sure that you respect the place and leave no trace of your interaction with the ground, which I might add is not all that easy, especially in well maintained parks.
I tend to look for the more natural scrubby reserves where you cant do too much harm.
If you do come across a groundskeeper or council worker, just say gday and ask them if detecting is ok, usually works for me.
Also follow up on your old abandoned towns as these places are where the real relics are to be found.
Good luck finding your first interesting coin or relic..... just like finding your first gold nugget, its addictive :Y:
