A rock i found

While mountain biking this afternoon i found this dark brown/black rock.
It is slightly transparent on the thin slithers and it has a nice line of white/clear running through it. Can anyone identify it?
Can anyone recommend some Australian geology books worth a read?

Hi Reeks , if you put light behind the "clear" do you get any colour ?

Headbut, im finding it hard to find a spot to shine light through, on the edge it is a slightly yellowy green which is strange as it is whiteish pale blue to look at (first pic)

Do you know the type of rock?

I thought the clear vein was all the way through , & seemed to reflect colour like opal . Interesting the same, but I dont know what it is

Looks like basalt with quartz intrusions. The whitish/pale blue might be some type of volcanic opal?
