I know that Minelab is making this MF5 detector , it could even be used for gold detecting, I tried to find out where I can buy this machine and the cost, but to no avail. Can anybody help me with this? I emailed Minelab today about this, but they did not answer back so far. Cheers, Hermann.

It's a specialised detector designed for military and post-conflict military clean-up purposes. I'd imagine they have no interest in offering it to the general public in its present form, when they already make and support a world-leading range of treasure, relic and gold prospecting detectors:

It's a countermine detector so won't be available through Minelab retailers.
They might offer to sell you one but it won't be cheap.

It runs on Simultaneous Multi-Frequency (4 frequencies in the range 5 kHz to 75 kHz) so to me looks like an Equinox with a higher 75kHz frequency in a SDC housing. You'd be better off with the EQ800 IMO.

Minelabs unique Simultaneous Multi-Frequency Digital technology results in the MF5 providing superior detection capabilities by combining the advantages of Pulse Induction and Continuous Wave technologies.

I think some people are getting thrown by the above statement believing that it actually combines Pulse Induction & Continuous Wave but all they are saying is that Simultaneous Multi-frequency combines the advantages of them.

This is the one I'd be more interested in:

The MDS-10 combines unique Metal Detection (MD) and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technologies to provide superior results in the detection of metal and non-metal targets including:

Landmines
Cluster munitions
Unexploded ordnance
Wires
Improvised Explosive Devices

Be interesting to see how well the GPR works in mineralised clays. Traditionally not very?
Seeing as though it's for mine detection then it wouldn't have to punch very deep for that application.
Not sure how effective it would be for a hobbyist? You need to know how to interpret what it's showing you firstly. The GPR would be good to see voids (hoards etc.) , Geological features/changes, faults etc. once you know what you're looking at but not real handy if it's >2m deep or goes for a long distance. You still wouldn't know if there was gold or other goodies there for sure until you dig/drill/sample it.

For those that haven`t seen it. The MDS-10.
Well Done Minelab.
What a Machine. :Y:

Thanks everybody for responding, It looks like the MF5 is not available to any of us gold detecting people. Minelab does not have any plans to supply the dealers with this machine. However, Minelab was asking me how many units I am interested in, and if I have government and defence force approval , it could be possible to obtain an MF5. I think I have to stick with my GPX5000 for a while. :8 cheers, Hermann.
