Hey all. Kinda been lurking on here a little bit.
New to all this.
I have a mate thas one or two old gold mines in his property.
We pan the streams with no luck. But im keen to crush up the quartz rocks outside thevold mine and pan them.
Ps thanks for all the good tips

Just bought a $170 metal detector. Im guessing you guys will laugh. And am making a dolly pot.
Cheers

ok so the $170 metal detector is no good for really fine specs of gold

what would be a good way to prospect the spoils of discarded and quartz veined rock that is in a big pile outside these old mines?

can a metal detector pick up this extremely fine gold in coconut sized rocks?

i am going to crush ones that have interesting quartz features then pan them, would this be a good start?
cheers

G'day drunkard welcome to PA you've got the right idea :Y: crushing is your best option for fine gold. Doesn't matter what detector you have when it comes to fine gold, any detector won't see it. The SDC2300 is the best machine I've used for small/tiny gold but even the SDC2300 won't see fine gold unless it's on the face of the quarts rock, if it's a small nugget/spec then it might have a chance.
