Well done great bit of history.
Does make you wonder why they were discarded?
Did their belt break and they just discarded it, and the leather has broken down over the 100+ years they have been exposed to the elements?

These types of buckles were used on a variety of clothing, including pants, waist coats, suspenders and corsets. I gather most found out in the goldfields were probably lost off pants with all those heavy gold nuggets weighing them down.
