Hello everyone
Brand new to detecting but no stranger to the Bush. Spent the last 30 years camping and 4wding all over Victoria.
I'm in the market for a detector, main target is gold but also wanting to target relics with my 2 girls. (they love the idea of treasure hunting)
Areas I would frequent would be mainly the Vic High Country. Reefton, Woods Point, Jamiseon, Mansfield and surrounds.
I fugured that buying second hand would give me more bang for buck but open to new also.
Budget is $1800-$1900 max for a full setup ready to swing.
Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated. I'm located in Croydon Vic
Tough one, if you're primarily going after gold, then I'd recommend a second hand minelab machine GP 3000 or GP Extreme GP 3500 can be had for between $1500-1900 depending on the seller.
I guess if you want an all rounder, you could look at something like a Minelab Equinox 800, they wouldn't be my choice for a gold machine, not that they can't do it, but VLF on a gold field is my idea of hell but that's just me.
A minelab Equinox 800 is a good all round detector for gold, relics and coins. This bloke http://phasetechnical.com.au/ sells them, not too far from you. Have a look on youtube, plenty on there about the Equinox. What ever your choice good luck.
After a lot of research I'm in the market for a GP 3500. Thanks for the advice
I think your budget gets you into the early GPX model . Maybe a 4000 with some extras .Thats just my opinion.Good luck with your search.
If Things Dont Change They"ll Stay The Same
if you're lucky, for around $2000 you could up of the pick up any earlier SD/GP sereis, or even a GPX4000
You just have to keep your eyes open, but buy with care. If the advert sounds in any way dodgy, RUN.

You can get a new Qed for that money.
yeah, or a new QED (PI machine)

I'd go with a minelab mate, at least when/if you upgrade your already a bit familiar things..
Gotta do the miles to get the smiles...

Gold the best a PI, relics the best a VLF. No best in between. If, if and only if I had a bang stick held at my head id say a EQ800 for both, but if given the choice without the bang stick id choose one or the other. For Gold.....a PI. For relics the EQ800. Numero uno for Gold PI. Numero uno relics VLF. Clear as mud.
