Hi all, I recently bought a 2010 Jayco Outback Discovery and am slowly adding things to make it a comfy home away from home. I cannot seem to get the fridge to run. I have tried it on 240v, gas and driving with it set on battery. When I swtch to gas the needle moves into the green but after 24 hours the fridge does not cool down at all, same with the freezer and same on 240v. Any ideas or ami up for a new fridge. Cheers Randy

I have one and it has not given me any trouble. Yet.

OK.
On 12v it draws about 10 amps in power.
This is designed to be used while Driving.
240v while you are parked up in a Van Park on power.
Gas, In the bush.

Does the big aluminum thing with fins get cold at all. ?
Give it about 2 hours on Gas.

Does it smell of ammonia when getting hot. ?
Also, Make sure your van is very close to level.

The key tests to do are with gas:
When switched on with gas, can you see a blue flame in the peephole at the bottom of the inside of the fridge? If yours doesn't have this feature, can you feel warm/hot air coming from the top of the ventilation grille located outside behind the fridge?
If both tests are negative, you have failed to ignite the pilot flame that burns continually to power the ammonia refrigerant cooling circulation system.
If either or both of these tests are positive but no cooling of the internal fins is noticeable after at least an hour or two, the problem must be in the ammonia refrigerant cooling circulation system itself and you will need a refrigeration mechanic to fix it.

Using electricity, there are additional possible points of failure in the heating elements/s that power the same cooling circulation system. Unless you have electrical skills and test equipment, you cannot easily perform any tests.

Note: These fridges take at least an hour or two to start cooling of the internal metal fins when working normally, but should chill the entire interior overnight.

Thanks for the replies people. I will try the tests you mentioned Grubstake and if I have no joy I will need a specialist to take a look. Would like to get it sorted for a trip to the GT when travel and enjoyment are not against the law. Cheers all and stay safe Randy
