Hi , my son wants to go prospecting and I was wondering where I can start , get equipment and where to go
Any help would be great
I live in the southern highlands
NSW
Thanks

Minelab and garret make great pans, both make matching classifiers/ sieve .
A snuffer bottle is almost a must.
Bunnings have a good range of cheap plastic scoops$3, handy.
And a good light hand pick , fluro green handle $7.
And a small shovel $7
A strong 10/15 or 20ltr bucket.
Old back pack to store gear and stuff in. Op shops are place to get one cheap.
$60 ball park

Yabby bait pumps from BCF or Anoconda are great for sucking up material from cracks into your bucket or pan.

Google miners den perhaps.
Depending on his size, a 15" pan might be to big for him, 12" s is a good size.

Later on if he is still keen, Gold Rat make the best river sluice. Vortex dream mat has almost become a given in the trapping mat for gold these days.
Gold Rat also make this.

Thanks for the reply !

That sounds great, Ill go and sort out the equipment over the weekend.

Ive now registered and got my Fossicking permit online.

Where is a good place to start, easy for kids so we can have a play around and maybe get some small stuff to get him and myself excited.
It doesnt have to be full on.
I googled a bit and is under the bridge at Oallen any good ? As its about 1.5 hours away for me so thats nice.
Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks
Ben

Marksman's and a few others know that spot well.
Plenty of fine flour gold there i hear, even straight under the bridge I think.
Subscribe to "adventure gold" and "vogus" on YouTube.
Adventure gold (Andrew) really knows his stuff and history. .
Look up in the Gold locations etc on the home page might help you out as well.
