Kato chose to go out on a limb and make jewellery instead of key tags, rakes or woodwork.

She had to learn properties of the metals and come up with techniques to work it into functional items.

For a first time, from scratch, then losing her first item and having to remake it, I am very proud of her efforts,
she even pressed the school about bringing in a mapp gas torch

Her teacher didnt know things she learnt along the way, we had a great time working things out
and getting her to have confidence in her work.

This bracelet band is patina'd by using salt, vinegar and amonia -

Wide band with beaten texture and rolled edge, ridges - looks amazing polished in the tumbler.

2.5mm solid wire braided and polished, silver soldered ends, looks great - her first item made (twice :/ )

Bracelet hammered copper, torch blued and ridge revealed by sanding for pattern.

Like I said, very proud of her efforts.

 :)

She could weld at the age of 5yrs, badly but weld.

Has a good set of tools under her bed too, including Cordless drill and associated bits.
Mounted her Birthday present Dart Board given to her by friends, used her tape to get correct distances. ;)

Scored 7's and 8's for her Tech Studies in wood, metal and plastics - aced the boys properly.

I'm not surprised as I treat the girls more like I imagine boys should be, you have to learn skills including how to use tools.

Am thinking about seeing if there is one around me. So over a number of my hobbies as it seems to attract too many selfish money grabbing people . Coffee / Native Bees/ Coin Collecting / Detecting.

Woodturning and metal turning and Fishing have lost their attraction and Blacksmithing calls; but not too sure about being able to do it all in the back shed. Noise and Heat might put a stop to it.

But need something to spend time and $ on, otherwise I just get in the wifes way LOL.

Kato here,

I am so lucky to have been given a gift from one of the forum members, and I hope he doesnt mind me posting this,

but he and his wife have been very generous and I would like everyone to know how kind and thoughtful they are.

I have been trying to draw some designs, but not happy with them yet.

Kato.

Thank you Wally69 O:)

Hey Greenhornet,
sorry a bit late to this post as I am new here but great work!!! Let me know if you guys need any tips and tricks as I am a jewellery manufacturer by trade. Good to see people still interested in making jewellery using old techniques. If you need any more precious metals when ready to upgrade to sterling silver or gold visit this company as they deal with the public for selling metal plate, chenie, milled metal and findings etc

www. aemetal.com.au/Webstore/ N.B. I had to put a space in the URL as I am unable to post links yet until 10 posts

Keep up the good work :D

RamB,

Great to have you on board, she is a versatile kid for sure, she is learning Blender at the moment to get into their 'add on' package
which is about 3D wax printing for casting jewellery. Interesting stuff.

But she needs more guidance with tools and technique to move forward, of course more specialised tools means a dedicated bench space.

The link is very appreciated, we have been wondering where to get things from.
I have spoken to a Silversmith locally, Paul is willing to have her working with his own daughter (28yrs), but of course is worried about injury etc on the site
and now we are in lockdown because of the Virus as Kato is immune suppressed.
The wife is a Pharmacist so we are pretty tight with what we are currently doing for bio-security.

I will get Kato to read all this and I am sure she will be posting you some PM's to forage your experience.

Currently she has to build "a better mouse trap" with some electronics for her 'creative tech'. That will be one for the 'pool room' !
I'll post that up when she has a working model.
I think an electric staple gun is going to be sacrificed to the kids project Gods.

Cheers

Hey Greenhornet,
No problem at all. Looks like Blender has come a long way since I last checked it out. A good thing that she is getting into CAD and 3d printing. It will be a valuabke skillset going into the future along with the electronics added! I wish I went to her school. :D

If needed, I can also recommmend some websites with heaps of free high quality jewellery related, and everything else, CAD files that she can play with but I won't spam the forum so just get in touch whenever....

Thanls

Awesome work Kato, you clearly have a talent to be developed.

With jewelery, check this Pablo out on YouTube, he is brilliant and shows exactly how he makes everything, you'll probably watch his videos many times, they are just so good.
