Hi Guys,

headed out to West Gippsland today in search of the yellow stuff.
Left home at 5.00am and arrived at the destination round 6.30am.. The drive out was fairly uneventful albeit bucketing down with rain, however when i was near, the rain had almost but disappeared.
Donned the waders and backpack and tried a new approach instead of going to where others have gone, and decided to do a bit of bush bashing.
In preparation, i did however cover my rain jacket and waders with insect spray, only because i absolutely hate Leeches!!
Anyway, managed to find a good spot in the stream where it looked like nobody had been there in a while and began to look for an area to set up the mini gold rat.
Took a little bit of time to get it right, but in the end it worked out really well.
I began to dig what was like a trench of bedrock running left to right of the creek, and what i found was that i really couldn't get a good shovels worth of material each time i tried to dig.
I gave up in the end and decided to use the yabby pump, and shovel where i could, throughout the 4hrs i was there.
I wasn't disappointed with the results, this little trench area surprised me.
I cleaned out the mat twice only, and each time was a winner.
I could see the gold all along the top cells of the mat, and when i cleaned it out each time i was pleasantly surprised.
I had two leeches drop onto my hand, which i quickly brushed off, and kept on working.
As i was classifying some material i noticed a dark object between my fingers next to my wedding ring, and BAM, A flippin engorged leech!
I quickly brushed it off and... kept on working.
Mind you i did stop and check more often after that little episode.
All in all, i was pleased with the new approach and will be doing more bush bashing on my next trip out.
Till then, hope your pans are full with gold.
