Hey guys, brand new to this forum. Looking for some advice and hopefully this community can help!
I have never been prospecting before and not sure even where to start, but my family and I have always loved camping and being outdoors, and we would really like to hit the goldfields in WA for our next getaway. My young sons would love it. The only thing is I'm not even sure where to begin.
Is there a process we have to follow, I assume we can't just rent detectors and hit the road? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

hi Kimberley_Gold & welcome to PA. Lots of info on here.
you can hire detectors, tho not real cheap, but cheaper than buying until you know what you need & want.
this is just 1 place. google search for others
https://www.perthdetectorhire.com.au/
.
If you decide to buy a detector have a chat to the guys at Reeds Prospecting in Midvale (if you are/ever around) Midvale(Perth)
http://www.reedsprospecting.com.au/shop/listings/minelab-detectors/
.
or in Kalgoorlie
https://www.finderskeepersgold.com/product-category/gold-detectors/
.
or further north in Geraldton
https://www.leadingedgeelectronicsgeraldton.com.au/site/search?q=minelab
.
some of these places occasionally have 2nd hand detectors for sale too.
It is a steep learning curve so also a good idea to get a training day in somewhere before you head out into the hills
.
good luck :Y:

Perhaps join APLA ...they have a 'new chums camp' each year and is not a bad place to start.
Ring Finders Keepers in Kalgoorlie, they work in with a fella doing day trips out of Kal...this would be the best start for you I think. I don't know anything about kids...but if
they are old enough, maybe get them involved with the research as trying to work out what the hellis going on is part of the adventure. Good luck.

Thanks for the valuable advice guys - Much appreciated! Although it t's going to be a great family adventure we are taking the trip seriously and of course wil take the neccessary precautions. Looking to head out from Perth in mid October so any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. :perfect: :goldnugget:

hey Kimberley_Gold, do you have any experience touring in remote/arid areas?
most Northern & inland goldfields areas will be heating up in October. make sure you take plenty of water, & not only carry a bottle or whatever of water on you when out, but make a conscious action of drinking regularly. 30deg in dry air will dehydrate you rapidly. note, sipping a tiny bit now & again doesn't keep you adequately hydrated. you should drink at least 250ml each time.
stay safe, have a good trip, & hope you find a bit of yellow stuff :goldnugget: :pickshovel: :Y:
