Heya guys, pulled this out of a creek while taking out my newly purchased SDC for it's first spin -- has me stumped!

It's about 20mm long. The small text says "STG Silver". Any ideas as to what it is??

Hah, yeah that's probably it... trying to scour the web in search for images of it but no luck so far... curious to know how old it is. I also found the end of a really old looking pickaxe, was buried deep into the clay layer under at least 2 feet of rocks/gravel within the creek, as well as some other old rusted bits of steel brackets and other bits & pieces... this all in a creek deep in the rainforest where there is no history of mining... however I have found some small pockets of decent quality gold... so it seems this place was worked a long time ago. The creek hasn't even got a name from what I could find, it's quite small.

I wondered that, but there is a 'rib' at the thin end that would stop it fitting snugly in the instrument

I am with RamJet, the thin long bit that fits into the instrument looks to be broken off, the lip end seems right as it is rounded and smooth,
seems as it is thin walled maybe it is made for a budget wind instrument, maybe a bugle ?

Do you have something to put next to it so we can view scale size, a box of matches or a common coin under the wide end or next to it?

I think it's a little too small to be the mouthpiece for an instrument though admittedly I don't know much about those types of instruments... will take another pic tomorrow with a coin or something for comparison, but I can tell you the total length is around 20mm, the large mouth is around 10mm and small end around 5mm.

I'm leaning towards the mouthpiece/tip of a cigarette hold, much like in the image golddiggerart posted above. Dimensions look almost identical.

Also just based on where I found it, deep in the rainforest upstream in a small creek. There's nothing further upstream, it just goes deeper into the rainforest and the creek eventually peters out... so the only people going up that far into the creek have to be prospectors/explorers, likely from quite awhile back. I wonder did the old timer Aussies use these cigarette holders back in the day? Or more likely Chinese?

Here we go.... comparison O:)
