I have this great piece of fossilised tree, found in the coal mine at Ebenezer near Rosewood Queensland it weighs in at 4.5 kilos,
can anyone tell me how to polish it without losing the natural beauty

You could improve it's natural beauty by getting that can away from it. :lol:

I have a much larger piece found at a coal mine as well that I have left natural. It measures about 27cm in diameter and about 18cm high. Can't find the photo of it. But here is the link to them.

Hi Wes, a mistake made by many people is they will get and old brass oil lamp or candle holder etc that has a lovely aged patina and they polish back to a high gloss finish and effectively reduce its worth.
I would not add any polishes or wax to your petrified tree I would probably just remove any loose dirt or dust with a soft bristled brush and maybe give it a wipe over with a lint free slightly moist cloth. Then wipe it over with a dry, lint free cloth.
