Hi all, I went to Reedy Creek for the weekend. Plenty of water around for running pumps. The area near my camp looked like it had been dredged. Huge piles of tailings and stripped bare bedrock right along the bank. There was also a trail of destruction left by others digging huge holes everywhere.

I managed a little over a gram of fine gold over 2 days slowly shovelling and testing different areas:

Thanks for the heads up. It's disappointing to see the carnage and we can only hope that it doesn't have too much of an impact on our hobby. By the looks of the photos you were below Kangaroo Crossing? I was there in early Feb and the water flow had stopped about 100 meters below the crossing and there were only some small stagnant shallow pools left.

Yep, I was in the campsite closest to Kangaroo Crossing. There was dirty stagnant water further down but this spot was pretty good

Good work if you managed to pull out a gram over a couple of days so close to the bottom crossing.

I was back yesterday for another dig and did not do so well. Tried a new spot a little further up

Drop me a PM with your Ph number if you're still in the beechworth area and ill give you a call regards a spot we worked yrs ago.

I managed to find some time to go down there after the Easter break. First place I went, the previous campers left a smouldering campfire, rubbish and made a mess of the creek. Not sure if they were the ones prospecting, but I found some nice gold in some crevices they missed

Is she flowing? Heading up next week and I prefer my little river sluice to anything else. Much slower, but its relaxing.

There are some spots where you could use a river sluice. I took mine with me but never used it.

I was at reedy creek too over easter and one of the locals there told me a couple of blokes are dredging the shite out of it even using a small excavator.

Wow, I'm surprised the moderators are letting you talk about this!!!!

I raised similar concerns probably two years ago and got told off good and proper, got PM'd by a mod, can't remember which one.

The fact is this does happen and there are A holes that need to be found.
