Bloke comes round today to pick up a stone I cut for him and says "can you weigh this?" He pulls out this honkin' big Harts range zircon! We put it on the scales and it's getting up toward a fifth of a kilogram!

While there appears to be some smallish facetable sections in it, it's really better left as a specimen I think - it has proper crystal faces, not readily visible in the pics.

Yeah, that's what I told him - I said that it looked like there might be a stone retrievable from it but if I was wrong, I would have wrecked a good specimen.

I have been shown Hartz range zircons that were not gem quality but were in their proper crystal shape and over a kilo in weight :eek: :eek: :eek:
 
Woah! What a rock! Epic find...would love to get out that way and find some stones! I'm doing the gold rigjt now...but nothing like finding a stone like that!
Really hope he keeps it as a specimen, good advice to him that ypu gave lefty. :D
