Hi All,

I have to say the past month has been pretty kind to me. On top of getting back in the silver game with 7 nice silver coins including 2 Florins and a very nice 1899 Three Pence, I also managed to dig 7 Pennies/Half-Pennies including a semi-key date 1918 penny and over $200 in spendies. Additionally, I also managed to dig a nice G.D.S.L badge - stands for German Shepard Dog League.

But the best thing came yesterday when I dug a 1799 King George the 3rd Penny!!! My first, and probably my last, 18th century coin I'll dig in Australia. And I made it by one year! It came out of the ground caked in dirt with no notable features apart from its thickness. So I threw it in the bag and kept on detecting...haha! After running a tooth pick over it at home though, I did get pretty excited. It is very toasted but I'm still very stoked with it. A nice piece of Anglo-Australian history. They don't get much older than that in Australia. Anyway, enough waffling and please enjoy the photos below.

Special mention: I dug two 2019 $1 coins (near surface) which is pretty unbelievable considering we're only in Feb 2019. I also dug a few 1999 $2 coins, so that means I dug coins from 1799, 1899 and 1999!!!

Cheers,

Moj

Some impressive coins there

The 2019 $1 may have been minted in 2018

I read an article where 20c pieces dated 2019 were showing up but they were minted in 2018

Well done

Yeah, I think you might be on the money Trash... pardon the pun!

Logistically Im not sure how they could get the 2019 coins into circulation so quickly.

Congrats on the KG3 coin, I think you will find it is a large half penny vs a full penny, as there were none minted in 1799, only half pennies. KG3 hp's are often mistaken for regular pennies due to their large size, plus the pattern on the circumference of the coin is another giveaway that it is indeed a half penny. :D

Some interesting info from "Coins of the UK"

George III Half Penny:

I am often asked about penny coins dated 1799. These are always halfpennies which, being quite large, are frequently mistaken for pennies.

The first type similar to that of George II was issued from 1770 until 1775, and then there was a 24-year gap before Matthew Boulton struck a larger coin at the Soho Mint in 1799. The edge is interesting as it has an incuse pattern around the centre of the entire circumference.

Thanks very much for the clarification Goldpick, it's much appreciated. The size definitely led me to assume it was a full penny. It's funny how they didn't have the denomination written on the coin. It's all very fascinating nonetheless.

Hi All,

Below are my finds for March 2019 resulting from about 5 one-two hour digs with my Nox 600.

Some of the highlights include:

- 1912 three pence in good condition (a very scarce coin)
- 1923 six pence
- a white 1920s-30s (I think) vintage toy car
- a silver earing with stone

and most of all...

- a WWII RAAF hat badge and two Army Forces buttons found nearby :D

Please enjoy the pictures below.

Cheers,

Moj
