Today was spent cleaning up what remaining coins I could find at the racecourse permission. One thing for sure is that I walked over a heck of a lot of ground for not much return, still nice to see a few silvers make a showing to keep the interest up. Oldest silver was a 1910 thrip, followed by 1942 thrip and sixpence, 1957 sixpence and a surprise 1950 shilling detected through a log (pays to wave you coil over everything!). That's 48 silvers from the site to date, and I'm sure there will be some harder to get coins still remaining.

The little broach was also detected partly under a large fallen limb, the Australian military button is a little worse for wear, though a good addition to other military items found at the site.

Made friends with the cows again, they were quite interested to see what I was up to and constantly followed me around the paddock.

I often have a chuckle to myself of you enthusiastic ones, posting pics of the rubbish you dig. My area is very lean on good finds, especially the beaches, & I dig so much crap to find one nice coin or bit, I bag the rubbish & it gets dumped unceremoniously in a bin, & all I think of it is 'I did my bit to help clean up others crap'

I like to be realistic about things, especially for those watching on that are new to the hobby or thinking about taking it up. That is to say I might have knelt down 50 times to extract targets, of which only maybe five were good ones. Sometimes it is simply easier to dig out all the iffy targets and sterilise the ground, less to deal with next time around.

That's a pretty little neck pin. Any hallmarks on that Goldpick?

Megsy, unfortunately it's just costume jewellery, though still a nice period piece.

I only decided to head out just after lunch today, so the pressure was on to find a few coins before fading light. The location was the same early 1900's house site that I have been picking away at over the last few weeks, and yet again it came through with some good finds.

I'll post the rest of the hunt later on as I was too excited with my last coin find of the day - my second 1925 penny, and in much better condition than the first one found in Adelaide.

With only 117000 ever produced, it is the second rarest penny behind a 1930 penny.

Here's the rest of the hunt, usual suspects including a Dinky truck and Lesney tractor, pistol grip, pocket watch/clock parts, lighter, and to top it off the best silver to find - another florin.

Congratulations on the 1925 penny mate,it is in beautiful condition too.I didn't know about the rarity of the "25",hope I can find one someday.

Today was a bit of a carbon copy of the previous hunt, minus rare coins and with many more annoying BB's. I had a patch of coins within a few feet of each, including yet another 1947 florin to round off the day. Once again it is pot luck on the condition of the coins, some are caked with sand and are blackened possibly due to bushfires, whilst others like the pictured 1952 penny look like they were dropped yesterday. Oldest coin for the day was a 1908 Edward VII penny.

I had a couple more Lesneys with the jaguar being the most complete with all of its wheels intact. Getting to the stage now where there are not many more obvious targets, and am really having to slow down the swing speed, play around with a few settings, and investigate those more iffy targets.

Wow! That 1952 penny is in amazingly good condition!

The folding ruler hinge reminded me of dad's old yard ruler that folded in three segments.

And really surprised the Jag's still in one piece! Obviously the toys last better than the cars! :lol:

This afternoon was a revisit to this site https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=508063#p508063 which a kind person had put me onto. Did pretty well and finished off with yet another very clean looking later florin dated 1960. At last I had a couple of sixpences to compliment a florin, the previous site dated from around the age was quite on smaller silvers for some reason - usually it is the other way around, lots of small silvers and no florins. :|

Most my 50% silvers come out of the ground like that, so yes they can visually fool you for a brief moment or two.
