Same site, different day though with Mrs Goldpick in tow to help out on the detecting. As usual she had luck on her side (and the Makro Racer), pulling the first silver (threepence), and then followed up with a very blackened 1952 florin. Not wearing her glasses, she beckoned me over to view her penny find - only to notify her that it was a florin dear. {)

My only silver was a 1951 sixpence, I really spent more time digging half pennies and toy cars, most of which were vintage Lesneys. I also was pretty chuffed with the Puss in boots babay spoon, never seen one of those before. Probably the most unusual find was the Joseph Lucas of Birmingham Bicycle Cyclometer, looks like the former owner had done 3357 miles befoe parting ways with the meter.

Hope you enjoy the pics. :D

What a great variety of finds!

You have to wonder if that kid was burying all those cars! :)

Cheers,
Megsy

It does make me wonder. I do remember losing several Star Wars figures in the garden of one of the houses I used to live in. They got buried when a bank a soil collapsed, could be worth something on day if ever found. ;)

After getting a lead from a customer for a new site (early 1900's), I decided to brave the rain to see if I could locate it. Surely enough it wasn't that hard to find, out of place vegetation and a cleared area denoted the former house sites, so out with the Deus.

The double decker bus was the first good target, though was getting a bit worried about the lack of coins after about 3/4 of an hour. The 1925 sixpence came from close to the car and was a mixed tone along with some other junk, then I decided to venture away from the main area to see if others had overlooked some prospective ground. That was a good choice in the end as all of my coins came from amongst the vegetation vs over the open ground - oldest coppers were a1927 hp and penny, up to a 1953 hp being the youngest (aside from the BB's).

The silver plate spoon is the biggest found so far, and the fob watch cover is also plated and a very common design around here - also found my second stirrup (not the same horse). Toy vehicles consisted of a Lesney Euclid quarry truck, Lesney No.72 Jeep, part of a Lesney Allis Chalmers scraper, and a Lesney Matchbox "Londoner" double decker bus. The Captain Scarlett cover was off a toy gun from around 1967 (English show very similar to the Thundebirds). Not a bad day out and even saw a bit of sun - well a little bit. :D

Yet another hunt from myself and Mrs Goldpick, we returned to the easier to detect spot with the bulbs due to the Mrs being a delicate flower. O:) By no means had the coins petered out, trying further south we came across a lot of targets in the ground - mostly junk and bottlecaps, though with the odd coin to keep spurring you on. Mrs Goldpick got three pennies whilst I managed 16 coppers and a solitary sixpence.

The find of the day came late in the day not long before we headed off, a Jacksons brass padlock pretty much in full working order. Here's some background on the manufacturer if interested - https://www.jacksonslocks.com.au/history.html

Once again we found various toy car and gun parts, with a complete Lesney 11b Esso tanker truck being the pick of the bunch.

Other odd items include a bell probably off a childs cart, marble, saw gauge (round disc with split), pocket watch bezel, stainless watch band and an engraved lighter. :D

Unfortunately I didn't get many photos due to my phone running flat, the lighting wasn't the best either.

Doing well so far!

I have a question... Do you think every second person used to own a harmonica back then? :D

Another day, another hunt, this time without the other half to help out. Still getting a decent showing on the coins, with the oldest copper from 1927, an the youngest from 1964. Coin find of the day was what I thought might have been a 2c coin, though it was too thin and the patina had it looking a lot older - my second ever farthing from 1954!

Also found my first dog tag on this particular site from 1949-1950, then found a dog tag of a different sort - a WW2 ID tag belonging to a private who served in the 2/7 Field Regiment.

The toy pistol was probably the best I have ever found, in near perfect condition. A few odd items include an Australian Junior Red Cross pin, Ford radiator cap (old and heavy), gold plate watch back, and an alloy film canister (top left). :D
