Hi folks, For those who are Garrett users and whove done repairs, can you help me please?

While out for a dusk detect the other night I had my 8x5 coil play up, and so decided to put the Nel Thunder on. What I didn't know was that the pin from the 8x5 had broken and when I put the Nel on U drove the broken pin further into the plug.

So my question is,
Can I take the front off the Pro, the face if you like to expose all the workings? Alternatively, how does one pull the guts of the thing out. I'm hoping by doing that I will expose the back end of the plug and I can remove the broken pin.

Don't worry about the coils. I'll send them.off to Garrett Aust if I have to, to get new plugs fitted. I've also got a guy in Adelaide who I think can help with that. TIA.

Please no smart slick remarks about my machine either. I luv my Pro.

Tassie, there are some clips on you tube covering dismantling of the control box, not exactly straight forward as you will need some security type screwdriver bits to remove the screws to get at the guts of the machine, and possibly a new sticker for the face plate. Will probably be easier to remove all cable plugs from the circuit board to get at the rear plugs, also looks like the coil plug is sealed into the housing for waterproofing. Last time I broke pins on the Infinium (uses same plugs) and had shielding issues, I had to get Phil, former SA Garrett distributor to do the repairs, though not sure whether he is still around or still doing repairs.

Also forgot to mention that one of the clips shows that the back end of the plug is filled with resin, so you won't be able to access anything from the rear to help you, the pin will have to be removed from the front (and also mean that disassembly may not be required). I tried to source the whole replacement plug in the past, though found that Garrett will not sell them to the public, thus forcing you to send away for repairs.

Good news, and a reference for anyone else.

My wife quilts and her pins are SUPER FINE. I pushed a pin into the split in the brass, turned the detect up and tapped it on a block of wood......
Hey Preston, the broken pin dropped out. Now to get the coils replugged.

Thanks for your help.
