Hi everyone.
I'm planning to do a road trip around Australia leaving from Tassie and was hoping to get some tips on must visit places for fossicking.
I'll be mostly doing the 4x4 touristy stuff but if i get a chance to have a dig i wont be able to resist.
Thanks for any info

Lucky you! If I was traveling around Australia I would visit Cloncurry and Emmaville.

What are your favourite stones? I would love to find some tiger eye.

Cheers Jaros.
Thanks for the info Dron. I think I've got a lot of research to do.
As for favorite stones it would be nice to find some
Sapphires
Ruby's
Emeralds
Diamonds
Opal
Zircons
Topaz
Garnets
Quartz's
Peridot
Plus lots of mineral specimens
Is there anything I've forgotten?
But realistically I'm just after anything I can cut.

Haha just a small list!

Quartz should be an easy one to tick off the list! Kuridala has plentiful Amethyst crystals.

Ruby maybe Harts Range NT or Anakie QLD?

Diamonds I'm not so sure about, might be a lot more difficult.

Opal means you will have to stop at either Coober Peedy, Lightning Ridge, White Cliffs or Andamooka, or South West Queensland for Boulder Opal.

Beryl variety Emerald will also be difficult, the only place I know of in Australia is at Emmaville/Torrington.

Here's some links that might be helpful:

Chances of finding ruby here on the Central Qld Gemfields are very slim. I've been mining here for near on 30 years and only found one and that cut just 19 points, whereas I have found 3 diamonds in that time - tiny, but diamonds nonetheless.
