Spent this arvo trying to clean out some more targets from the 1800's/1900's sawmill site, concentrating on the former residence site and around the sawpit. Was a bit of a crap day to start off with, found a roo half penny straight up, then my belt broke leaving my jeans around my ankles and no where to mount my finds bag. Compounding those troubles I had an emergency call of nature, and waddled awkwardly back to the car to get the dunny paper, only to find my MI-6 pinpointer was missing!

I grabbed the spare Garrett finds bag and AT propointer, and ended up retracing my route through the forest, luckily I spotted the pinpointer lying next to a stump - phew! Things started to get a bit better, with a 1943 thrip detected at the base of a rash inducing bush, then after clearing away some piled branches, picked up the 1933 penny. Spent probably another hour picking up low conductor targets (buttons, rivets, etc), and located a couple of nice musket balls. The 1864 penny came from dirt piled up around the saw pit, and it proved to be in excellent condition once cleaned up. The small bottle came from buried dump full of broken glass shards, wasn't too keen to explore further not wearing gloves (yeah, I know - in the naughty corner). :p

Didn't get many photos due to leaving the camera in the car with no belt to carry it on.

I'm sure there is still plenty to find here, if it were not for all the dead branches and trees littering the site - will have to wait for another few years for them to rot. :)

Out of interest sake, I managed to locate a photo of the 1800's inn site from SA library records (same site where the large Victorian pennies, thrip, and last year's KG3 shilling came from).

Apparently the inn owner's wife is buried somewhere on the site, hope I don't come across her!

Another great hunt, I hope you threw that broken belt away for a future detectorist to find in a hundred years ]:D

I had no idea where it went, was wondering why my pants were so loose. :D Ended up detecting it again when looking for my pinpointer.

It's not the detector that gets the results, it's the nut behind the wheel - apparently! :D In all seriousness, although the NOX is tempting, I've learnt too much on the Deus now to consider swapping machines and starting from scratch. I'm just happy it is still getting good results in what are some pretty inhospitable areas for detectors. :)

Same location last as per where the Rising Sun was found, a good assortment of targets including one silver (1956 thrip), and a couple of dog tags from 1947-48 & 1948-49. Was a damned cold night at 5 degress, at least there was no rain and partial moonlight to detect under. Most of the finds came from gridding a very large area which I had very roughly detected previously, considering the whole site has been ripped and finds spread all over the place. :)

Nice hunting ! :p
:Y:  :Y:

Just a short hunt tonight, thwarted by inclement weather unfortunately, though did manage a couple of silvers for the night. Oldest coin was a 1914 hp, the sixpence was dated 1926 and the Rams head shilling 1952. A nice surprise was the Scovill Waterbury US military button, in almost new condition thanks to the very sandy soils. :)
