Ive got a CTX 3030 which I would consider replacing with the Equinox if it does a better job on fine gold jewelry. The 705 is a gift for the old man who has never detected before but is very interested after seeing what can be found... I think the 705 looks to be a solid choice for a first detector if aquired at the right price (thanks Anaconda).

I found about this by talking to a detectrist I met on the beach. He said he was going to get one.
I hope it will be a great detector like they claim. I hope it won`t be like GM1000 as I see many of on sale on ebay now.
I should stop buying used detectors on ebay and just have one good one.

GM1000 is high frequency machine, in the right area for the right thing it will work. But it is not really for relics, more for small surface gold.
Best to decide what you want the detector for, if its for a bit of everything, than a multi frequency VLF like Equinox should be good for you.

The equinox killer...
Good stuff, use the power of the smart phone with its future advancements, generic apps, GPS etc etc Is this the beginning of the end for proprietary MDs similar to how the smart phone is taking the market from the dedicated hand-held GPS?????

I could just imagine, go to power up detector, phone is flat, or coil battery is flat. Or better yet, phone glitches out, app crashes..etc etc. The multitudes of hardware is what creates software programing headaches in the first place.
Specialised equipment is the go.
Smart phones are great, will a smartphone camera replace a Professional DSLR, no, because hardware trumps software.I think this goes with many things. Hardware gets smaller and larger circuits become integrated into smaller IC's, but that has its limit, and to ask a device to specialise in 100 things is asking a bit much. Can it work, or will it work, yes. Will it be a headache and allow for more problems to creep in, yes as well.
But on the other hand, if the price is dirt cheap, and it gets more people out enjoying this great hobby then why not I guess.

Even though I don't like Apple very much, they realised this in the PC market a long time ago, and avoided a lot of the headaches the IBM PC world faced and still faces to this day. As I said, I think if the hardware and software are both designed by the same company for the same specialised purpose it will always out perform anything else.

Crikey, glad you fellows weren`t around in the 70s would`ve talked a bloke into believing a detector can`t find gold, come to think of it you might`ve been, can remember a lot of such talk. Seriously I`ve been using a smartphone and before it a PDA as a GPS moving map ever since year one, very successfully. To me is just a natural tech progression although be interesting to see if the ad is genuine.
At first look this detector is being made for "the first colonisation of Mars" 8)

Another example is the GPS in our phones, is it good, YES, is it the best, far from it. A dedicated GPS unit is far more accurate and has better hardware. Phones are limited due their multi tasking nature. They could squeeze all the top stuff in a phone, but it would be the size of a laptop.
I have used Palm and Windows CE smart phones from very early on. I remember people being totally fascinated by them. I also remember the processor wars and the battle to see who could make the fastest chip. Eventually clock speeds got maxed out and they had to achieve faster speeds through other methods. So while they have progressed, the physical size of micro chips and how small they can go does have its limit. I can't remember exactly the NM they got down to.
I never said it wouldn't work, more that I wouldn't go that way.
Another example is VR and using phones as the display. It has its advantages, gets you an idea of the tech, but many more disadvantages than a dedicated device and when it comes to final outcome of efficiency and production, a dedicated device wins hands down.
I could also mention piloting a drone using a phone versus using a dedicated controller as in the DJi Mavic Pro... and so on.
I hope they do release it, and see what the masses think. Would probably be a better option than an Aldi detector that's for sure.

I'll settle for a better price....nevermind tech advances....Detector prices are like (new) steel prices. ...The special deals come and go but the base cost tends to be the same.....Cost to features/capabilities ratio has me interested in the Nox......I'd buy a deus or ctx tommorow if they could make them about $500 to $700 cheaper than current retail. ...I get paying over 2k for a gold machine that you have a multitude of coils and settings for but coin and treasure....they'll be waiting a while for my hard earned, too many better value for money options.

I am a fan of what works, it just so happens that Minelab works well.
Maybe you should make a separate topic for that kids detector you put up. Might get a lot of likes there.
