9kg Gympie nugget

All good.

Its not my nugget or find so I don't have anything to gain by spreading mistruths. I let you guys know what I heard when I was at the minelab store.

No worries, I'm just as interested as the next guy. Hopefully some more info comes along soon.

Platinum alloyed with gold is extremely rare and as such it would be an extremely interesting find, especially in Australia as most platinum nuggets are found in Russia. I know there are platinum deposits around the Gympie area but there isn't much of it and almost certainly not as native nuggets, though I could be wrong.

It's not out of the realms of possibilities that it was found. Platinum is found in the Gympie area in association with other targeted minerals but is mostly measured in ppm so a platinum + gold nugget find would be still extremely rare for the area & would no doubt get some interest from minerals explorers there who are already aware of its presence.
Good luck to the finder if the story is correct. These types of posts always attract an element of disbelief & suspicion hAyyoUinAU. Not much use getting worked up about it & calling us trolls . You did say it wasn't uncommon & said to do some research. Duly noted & done thanks. :lol:

I am not sure if it was from Gympie, all I heard was Sunshine Coast. I do not think the finders will be revealing the location, so I don't suspect there will be too much to go on. I am just looking forward to some pictures like everyone else. Would be cool to see.

I am never suspicious of the amount of the find. I can't see why people would go to an effort to sell it in a specialised auction if it didn't exist. And in this case, that is what was happening. What I am always suspicious of is the location. That I would always take with a grain of salt.

Gee some of you blokes are unforgiving...

the poster that started this thread said he 'heard' a nugget was found in Gympie. That means it's a rumour...untested and unproven.

Not much different to anyone posting that a 'nugget was found in the Golden Triangle.'..short of precise GPS co-ords and photo evidence it's just a story.

The level of seriousness around this topic is truely amazing...as is some of the hostility directed to some. Fellas...it's just a story that has been 'heard' by someone.

Reckon I could make some serious money selling some people chill pills.

We may be able to work out who found it by using the theory of reduction ,..... !

Geez Yobs, gold prospectors and fossickers must be some of the biggest sceptics on the planet. I wouldn't take it personally mate, it's only human nature to question things. What would the world be like if we believed everything we heard on the grapevine?

Hi Yobs, I probably am what you call is a keyboard warrior. I have had a lifelong interest in fossicking, from the first time I went to Walhalla in Vic.
I know now that the best enjoyment I can hope for is to be in the "zones" that at most give me the feeling of being out there even if it is only camping and enjoying the sense of being there.
I realise that you were tongue in cheek in what you have said--it's not like you to be this at all. I have not met you personally, yet, but I know that if you found the 9kg nugget you would not disclose any info but would have few pics of "it".
This is a great place for all people with an interest in the hobby to be able to express themselves openly within the forum rules.
I get lil nuggets on this forum when people sell them. Who knows if and when i'm able to roam the countryside with some form at ease and be lucky to find a nuggie basking in the sunlight waiting for me to pick it up.
There is probably 80% of the forum that you could classify as "keyboard warriors" like me. I have a function to perform on the forum as do all members. We are all part of a "club" sharing experiences and sharing pics of our finds.
You, Yobs are one of the most read people on the forum and members like what you say.
