I think its time to start planning a few official Prospecting Australia fossicking trips around the country. Obviously I wont be able to attend them all so I'm looking for volunteers to help make these happen. I will try to contribute merchandise and what not to be used for camp giveaways etc.

So to get the ball rolling I would like to gather a consensus on where you guys would like to go. We'll need exact locations, costs involved, vehicle access and any other relevant information. Once we get an idea on where people would like to go, we'll put it to a member vote to establish possible numbers and set dates for this coming Spring and Summer.

I'll suggest the first one being nice and close tongue

Nundle NSW, either Sheba Dam or Swamp Creek camping ground, both are free camping grounds with all vehicle access. Both have a limited amount of space so if its going to be a big turn out I will then suggest Chaffey Dam which can camp a lot more.

Keep them coming.

Nugget.

We'll be trying to organise multiple camps around Australia, so there might be something a little closer to home.

Definitely keen on a Nundle trip, just depends on work. Chance to get some gold or sapphires. Pick up some praise from Hanging rock or have a look in a few old mine shafts. We will have to include a feed at the famous Peel Inn.

I'd be keen, I don't need much space, I travel pretty light.

Could we try to organise something in every state?

That's the idea GT smile, but it's going to require more specific suggestions from people with local knowledge.

NSW - Nundle sounds good. Also Sofala/Hill End. Could camp at Coles Bridge (not sure of facilities etc. but could check) or several other spots on the Turon. Hill End also has a number of options either in the village, Tambaroora or bridle track.
Vic - anywhere in the Golden Triangle. Come on you Mexicans put up some ideas.
Qld - Clermont
WA - Leanora, Laverton,

In Victoria,

You have Creswick which has 3 seperate camping grounds, and various other camping spots. The main road into the camping areas is dirt but accessable by all types of cars.

There is also Beechworth and Eldorado but no camping spots that im aware of only caravan parks which you can pitch tents at.

For Consideration Of Course.

Qld it would be better to use say Glendon area (west of Warwick) as a camp base with prospecting available there and with Qld new fossicking areas just down the road this would cover both detecting and highbankers/sluicers. Cleremont really only covers those blind guys with those funny beeping walking sticks.

I would love to do a weekend in the Golden Triangle, but I haven't been there yet, wouldn't know where to go and wouldn't know where to stay. If someone can suggest areas we could try (e.g. Maryborough one day and Dunolly the other) I'm more than happy to research places to stay that are family friendly.

Just a suggestion. Walhalla in Victoria is a great place, plenty of camping spots and lot of history. Can be very busy if it is a long weekend. Also there is very old cemetery where they do ghost tours. You can google walhalla ghost tour.

How about the south coast of NSW around Moruya or batemans bay. Close to the Mogo state forest and close to the beaches for those that like to use a detector on the beach.

They have the long tunnel gold mine tour too.
Yep, good spot but gets real busy on any special or long weekend. Should keep the other halves entertained with coffee shops, museum & gift shops etc.
