Hi all,

Hope everyone is well,

I'm seeking some advice on some ground on private property that is of interest to me. The property is located in the Rushworth/Whroo area and consists of slightly undulating land with large amounts of red/yellow quartz and large ironstone rocks and outcropping rocks at the top of the hills. I also found a very large rock with shots of quartz, mixed with ironstone and I think some greenstone (don't quote me). I am just wondering if these are good indicators of gold.
I will attach some pictures below of what I've found:

Cheers.

They Look like very good bits of rock. Id crush them by whatever means you have at hand and pan off the fines and check for visible gold. If you get a nice little tail of gold in the dish, then try and trace the source of the ore to the outcrop.

These are certainly good indicators but don't guarantee gold, and are fairly typical of Victorian goldfield areas like Rushworth/Wrhoo.
You're probably aware that gold was in liquid form in hydro thermal fluids which were forced up through cracks in the earths crust, by enormous ground pressure, 100's of millions of years ago. The hydro thermal fluids also consisted of Silicon Dioxide more commonly known as Quartz. As the fluid rose it cooled and solidified. For the gold to form there is a particular recipe of mineral, chemical, heat and pressure required. Those specific requirements are not always present in the right amounts to create gold. In the Vic goldfields gold is associated with quartz but more often than not Quartz exists without gold. So you will find gold with Quartz but you will find Quartz without gold. I'm no expert and I'm happy to be corrected by anyone with more expertise. I like to try and understand how gold is formed so I can look for indicators, probably what you are working to do as well. Cheers

Is it pinging on anything? Certainly worth a good few hours swinging. Looks good and in a gold producing area so you've got a chance, albeit a small chance.

Hope you find a little reef for yourself :Y:
