My shoulders have played up on and off for about 30 years with the left one (non dominant) giving me the most grief :( as it has been lately with me detecting some days twice a day.

So has anyone had a Cortisone injection and what was your experience.

Thanks :)

Yes I had one about 15 years ago now for a tennis elbow and to this day my elbow is still going strong touch wood.If I was you i would go for it my thoughts cheers

Yes.. I had Tendonitis of the Shoulder.. Had several injections ,most worked for a while... till I saw a different Dr, who refused to give me a needle... Exercise he said.. showed me one that I believe cured my Tendonitis .. He refused me cause of my Age at the time (25)... If they Don't Hit the ''spot" they Don't work..... OH and The Needles HURT... 8.(

LW...

Yes I have had a few over the years the last injections were done in hospital guided into the right spot in the tunnel thingy thing seem to work good ,but I must admit I just take it easy these days and use panadol asteo if I plan to do a lot regards john

Yep! Tennis elbow with 8mm tear across tendon. Didn't work and the specialist who I saw afterwards was totally against them. His theory was it gave short term relief but could lengthen the healing time. Here's an article about it https://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/10/27/do-cortisone-shots-actually-make-things-worse/?_r=0

My relief was about four days. After two and a half years they operated. Still giving jipp but it's the best it's ever been, op 4 months ago.

If you start dropping stuff from your shoulder usage get it done if not exercise
Advice from lawyer.

Thanks for your testimonies but I am reading that results are moderate at best on average.

I am getting an ultra sound alone on Monday with no decision today (before this thread) to get any injection.

But saying that it will be good to get the ultra sound done getting some "professional" advice moving forward leaving any decision to inject for another day.

Have a good weekend for tomorrow :)

There are alternatives, I was warned off cortisone.
Have had "tennis elbow" probably more them 10 years from breaking boulders for 30 + years, finally saw specialist. Top bloke.
Specialist suggested a "Blood Patch".
Quite an experience yesterday, Doc took blood from left arm, anaesthetised problem right elbow. wasn't that bad really.
A bit sore to move now, I see it as insurance to be able to get extended use out of it longterm.
The Doc drops the bomb shell,"don't use it for 2 weeks":/
If I wasn't self employed I might have been more excited.

It's supposed to heal the problem area in 3 to 4 weeks rather than 6 months.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Maybe others have had this done, maybe they can contribute.
You only get on body, so look after it properly.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injection. Had a couple of those as well over six months. I thought they improved it but second specialist wasn't so convinced it worked.
The first time the nurse let me go after the blood removal before the vein had closed shut. My wife made me go back as my arm started to balloon up as all the blood pumping out the leaking vein lay trapped beneath the skin. I got an awesome bruise from it but no pain.
I just think the second specialist had an itchy scalpel finger plus it was also costing a grand in travel each visit

I had one for a rotator cuff injury about 20 years ago, I was told the injection could be painful but I never even felt the needle going in. The result was immediate and for the first time in about 10 years I was able to lift my arm above shoulder height with no pain, just the sound of the fluid flushing through the joint. The ortho specialist that did it said it should relieve the pain for a month or so and allow the damage to heal but unfortunately the effect only lasted 24 hours so in my case it was a waist of time.

Hey CGS

Mine is a similar experience to Magilla, but I've had a total of 5 treatments in my left shoulder, one was in the tunnel and worked great for about 6months the rest were pretty crappy.

My specialist refused to operate cause the result maybe worse than the injury, so I'm left with "suck it up princess" great for those cold mornings in the bush feeding the slushie!!!

Yep a bit of yella in the pan after the clean up makes my shoulder pain go away

Good luck with the jabs

I had problems with my shoulder and had ultra sound and x-ray, that were inconclusive. When I started to get pins and needles down my arm I had a MRI, and it showed a number of bulging disks and other issues in the upper vertebrae. It felt like shoulder pain, but was nothing to do with the shoulders, which were fine. After seeing the osteo surgeon, I stopped doing back squats, and introduced exercises like face pulls to strengthen up my neck and traps area. This worked, and I've had no pain or pins and needles since.

Personally, even though it is expensive, I reckon an MRI is the best diagnostic tool - as it will show exactly what is going on. I'd also try some exercise (with the advice of a good trainer or a physio) before getting the injection.

Defo agree. I got told that I may be wasting my money ($200 IIRC) and I would probably get the same result as the ultra sound.

The ultra sound results were tennis elbow, no tear evident. The MRI result was tennis elbow with 8mm tear.

I was thinking of giving up competition shooting (field & game with a shot gun for those who don't know) because of shoulder pain.
Sleep at night was nearly impossible & getting worse.
A fellow competitor told me his bro nearly sold a very lucrative butchering business because of shoulder pain but then he discover Krill Oil. He told me it had changed his brothers life & I should try it.
Well I've been using it now for 3 years & the results are amazing (for me anyway).
I tried different brands & the only ones that work for me are the Swisse wild krill. NOT fish oil.
My wife bought a different (cheaper) brand & was giving them to me without telling me & within 2 days the pain was back so I know that the Swisse are the only ones that work for me.
I'll never go off them now.
I obviously have no connection to Swisse...... only a very happy customer.

Rob.
