G'Day all,
I'm here in the triangle ( for the first time) finding nothing but buckshot.
I've done Creswick, Dunolly & now doing Tarnagulla all without success. I even bought a new Evolution coil - but still no colour .
Is there any colour left in Victoria ?
Any tips of likely spots ??

:(

There's plenty there mate :)
Your in the right areas........ ;)
You just haven't walked over it yet!! ]:D
Research the areas your in and grid a spot out.... ;) ;)
Maybe drop into coiltek in Maryborough and get some Tully maps :Y: :rainbow:

Good Luck :Y: :D

Thanks Madhatter,
I have Tully maps for my areas, and using them all the time. They're guiding me thru the leads
of Tarnagulla at the moment.
If I'm in the right area I guess I'll just keep digging.
Thanks again,
cinken

mate got a grammy at waanyarra near camp ground so i guess it just a case of keep looking and looking and looking etc

lot of dirt mixed with the gold , i come home without any more than with , also Ground reading may help if you any good at that

coiltek have training tours every friday and saturday

Hi Cinken ..... sometimes takes a while to get that elusive 1st piece, sorry I didn't check to see what detector you're using but regardless try buying a small sub gram piece for a few dollars and use that to "tune in" your ears and detector ..... bury it and start swinging and listen to the sounds keep going a bit deeper and have a play with the setting to see what's best.
It's a good process to follow whenever you get to new ground/area ..... bury a test piece and tune in with the best settings.
Cheers T.

Hi T,
Thanks for that, appreciate it.
I have a Minelab 5000. I auto tune every new area as well as testing the depth with my gold sample.
This is my first try at Vic detecting and boy is it different what with the undergrowth & buckshot you need the patience of Jobe.
Still no gold only buckshot & rubbish.
Move on to Wedderburn soon to try my luck there.
Cheers Col

Ohhh relax guys, he's just jerking your chain... :p ]:D

Why just today OTR posted this,...

23 May.Hi,just came back from using the Impact at Havelock goldfield during the last 3 days .Only detected for 8 hours as most of the time was used up searching for the spot I discovered on Geovic, but never found as the ground topography and tracks did not seem to match those of Geovic.Initially I used it in the discrimination modes and found a small piece of quartz which gives a constant signal but with no discernible sign of gold or iron.Dug up a few weak signals to find nothing and it was disconcerting.I think the discrimination modes are more for coin hunting in parks and beaches as this machine is clearly intended for. There was no need to use DI3 or VLX2 as the gullies were free from trash. But for finding gold I quickly came to the conclusion it is better to use the GEN mode as the discrimination modes may miss it.In Gen mode the machine talked to me and pointed out small patches of highly mineralised ground with a broad signal against real objects which gave a spiked signal.GB only needs to be done once and the automatic system adjusts as you walk around. The most impressive feature of this unit is its ability to remain stable in our highly mineralised soils on our goldfields.Mineralisation level on the meter remained at 25% all day in all discrimination modes while in GEN mode it was 25-50.It did not overload once in the 3 days.I did not need to increase the isat level from its default setting of 1 to compensate for higher mineralisation, and indeed increased the gain from its default of 70 to 85 due to the high stability of the unit.Overall the unit is very easy to use as all modes have particular default settings for each mode. I set the Fe.vol to 0 and the unit remained silent in DI2 mode. The unit is a bit heavier than some other units but its incredible balance makes it seem light when in operation.Overall design and build quality makes it stand apart from all others when considering its low price.Only fault was the wired earphone jack which protruded out too far and if placed on the ground and stepped on may easily break the connection in the housing.

Hi dam it, I am giving good advice, not pulling any chains. If you want quick gold you need to work for it physically.Nothing for free. Saw an 80 y.o oldtimer south of Maryborough many years ago who put his kids thru. university from digging holes, taking the wash dirt home and washing it. He attracted new chums and I saw a 60 y.o woman from Malta dig a 3 meter new hole in 3 days and washed one once of gold out of it.I tried it myself and the pick was producing sparks on the tight gravel. I was only there one afternoon and dug down 2 meters.Message me and I will give the location.

My previous post should be regarded very carefully for older members, and I do not advise anyone over 40 to try sinking holes.I got a slight heart attack at 66 after I was digging into a hard mullock heap, which resulted in a double bypass operation.
I always wanted to dig a trench in the side of an old shallow hole where I detected a 2 oz. nugget and dig out the virgin soil to the next hole. The possibility to examine the soil and find a nugget is much higher in my view than detecting over the same ground from the surface.

Once again I have had to remove childish comments from the same people who were warned that a ban would follow if it continued.
Well two have had a 3 day ban imposed and a 3rd person is very lucky not to be included.
The reason for editing.....

I assume I'm the third person your referring to?

I tried to apologize and offer advice to OTR but got it thrown back in my face.
Why was that apology removed?

Maybe you should not have a remark that warranted an apology? Your apology was removed as it no longer made any sense in the conversation. It is often hard to remove posts and keep the flow of the conversation going. Can we now return this thread to it's proper topic please?

Thanks.

Yeah plenty out there? madhatter found 2.6 grams in 4 months and is all wound up.

OldtimerROB....
Is sarcasm?
I am happy as a pig in crap with whatever gold i get.
I dont think picking on members finds is
Unnecessary

I think there is alot of gold left, sometimes you get lucky and find some color on your first outing.
But other times it can take many trips trying to find a sweet spot.

I enjoy finding every piece for its own unique charachter.
Detecting is like a box of chocolates..... lol

Ahhh. Typo.....
Its NOT necessary to pick on finds :N: ;)

I hate it when auto spell jumps ahead and i dont see it ?

No worries - I think we all realised what you meant, mate. :Y:

And welcome aboard, by the way. Sorry you had to arrive at a time of such conflict - this place is usually not as turbulent. I think there's a few members under pressure of one sort or another in their lives at the moment and it's spilling over into their forum time.
