After an incident yesterday with a Bee Sting, I thought
it would be a good idea to put a post up about it.
Got stung on the forehead by a Bee and knowing I
do have a reaction, Calmly presented myself to our
local Hospital within 15 minutes.
.
Spent 2 hours there with antihistamines taken and monitored.
Then got a stiff lecture on why I do not carry Epi Pens. ]:D
I thought to myself, All those times I have been away in remote area's. 8)
Time to practice what I preach. :8
Now have Epi Pens in the glove Box of the Prado. :D

All up I had a small reaction but not necessitating any drastic
measures and came home with one hell of a headache.

Lesson Learn't.
Carry your Freaking Epi Pens.

That's bad luck mate. I always have a pack of antihistamines in my First Aid Kit. The bugs here in Qld can come out from anywhere anytime and have a feed of ya!!

Be aware that your Epi Pen meds can be damaged by heat so I would not recommend you store it in the glove box of your car.
The one time you may need it - it may be useless.
It is Hormone and needs to be properly stored, would you leave a child in the car glove box on a hot day?

The same goes for any medication, check with your 'local licensed drug dealer' (Pharmacist) as to how is the best way to store this stuff
for extended trips and hot weather.
When you need it, you need it to be fully functional.
Also keep tablet form antihistamines with you too, you can take that if you think it is only a mild reaction, AND still use the EpiPen if it is severe or becomes severe.
the antihistamine and EpiPen Adrenaline work in different ways so will not conflict - these allergies are not a joking matter and should be taken seriously.

It cuts down on time in the field !!

We have the same problem with meds for Kato. and the wife is one of those 'LLDD's' (Pharmacist) ;)

Comment about the Glove Box means they will be stored
in a marked area in a small Styrofoam Box.
I am aware of this.
And I have used them on other people.
They are adrenaline pens.

OH, ok, can you just get them over the counter at the chemist?

No, NOT in any State that I know of, all prescription only!

There is a reason for this, I will not go into it.

There are only two sizes Child and Adult.

Other than that, a hospital, ambulance or pharmacy with script.

Don't know about the epipen guidelinies but adrenaline is an S3 drug, mostly very safe and is pharmacist prescribed...different presentations in ampule form can be an issue and often ampule form are not stocked.

The hospital in Laverton is doing a roaring trade at the moment.
With all this rain the mozzies are out in force and cases of Ross River and Bahma have sky rocketed.

To make matters worse, March fly's the size of small aircraft have invaded in huge numbers and there's been a few cases of bad reactions and anaphylactic shock.
I had Ross River a few years ago and it wasn't fun. At the moment between the mozzies and March flies I look like a chocolate crackle.
