Amethyst in Vic

Hi Guys,

Is there anywhere in vic where you can reliably find amethyst? I've heard that you can find it in Beechworth/Eldorado, but not sure on the location. (I found a purple bit of quartz in Beechworth, but i don't think that counts)

Was a little bit enthused when i went to the geelong Gem Show and the gem clubs stall was selling big pieces for 2 or 3 dollars each. If i found something like that in wild, I'd be ecstatic!

Anyway, anyone know of any locations?

Eldorado (Specimen Hill), Reedy Ck (Beechworth), Springhurst, Powelltown, Eden (just inside NSW), Mooralla ( http://www.crocoite.com/wiki/index.php?title=Mooralla ).
My guess would be in a lot of granite and rhyolite areas in Victoria (eg the Tynong Granite between Tynong and Pwelltown)

Terrific smokey quartz at Mooralla - amethyst a bit rarer and mostly small. Eldorado is good amethyst but on private land, but at least you have Reedy Creek nearby with all sorts of gems, and nice coloured tourmaline at nearby Clear Ck, Everton - south up the valley a bit are torquoise mines (Greta South, Edi) but probably resricted because inconsiderate collectors gave very considerate farmers a hard time (Greta SOuth has been pegged by miners I think).
