Plannng a trip to Hill End area, I haven't been to Hill End before, is the road in suitable for a 20 foot caravan or are we better staying at Bathurst or Mudgee Showgrounds? Or is there anywhere else in the area suitable to stay for a few days detecting?

As the link says it's tar from either Mudgee or Bathurst but both ways have sections of steep, tight, winding road - slow going with a van but doable. IMO you'd be better off setting up out at Hill End at one of the campgrounds rather than travelling from Mudgee/Bathurst each day.

The Village Campground would be more suited to a caravan + closer to the Village. Can walk up to the pub :D

Thanks Balmain Bob for the help in Hillend. Been one of my favourite places for nigh on 50 years but was good to see a few new places.. Pity that the Bridle track to Bathurst is closed though..I havent found the pics you took of my small finds yet. Are they on this site somewhere? DD

Hi Dave,
they are in the Members Meet Up section under Hill End Round 2 , page 5.
Im working on getting access to that gated road to the diggings, Rob knows the land owner and is going to ask about access.

cheers

Bob

I did Hill End approximately 2 years ago you'll have no problems with your caravan. The caravan park in Hill End is a little bit tight getting in some of the spots but very nice and was clean. Had a couple of Feeds at the pub and the food is good it's some panning got some gold. I would have loved to have got the 3030 in the town area but believe i would of got shot for that? very nice spot.
