I came across the carved rock on my shelf, the other day. I don;t think I've ever posted photos of it yet here on Prospecting Australia. First of all this is what the pictograph symbol looks like and represents.

Now the artifact was carved from an iron magnesium aluminum silicate mineral with water in the chemical formula a type of amphibole mineral.

These rocks are not native to the area, must have come down from Canada during the Ice Ages.

There is a front or top veiw.

A back or bottom side that is somewhat of a beaked bird of prey.

You might say looks like a bird skull even.

What was the significance of the motif?
The large diamond shape represents Great Spirit (Creator/God). The others hard to see and recognize. Here are more of the pictograph symbols with the literal meaning, but these probably were an ancient alphabet form used in stone calendar writings. Egyptians, Phoenicians, and Ancient Hebrew all had similar pictograph al[phabet forms.

I don't know about those symbols...

there is a lot of Neo Native American symbology, so its very hard to date. The one thats stands out in that crowd is the "No Rain" one. I think that the strike through is modern invention.

You should take this object to an expert. they may be able to enlighten you on its significance.

Don't trust the Internet.

I wondered about the strike through also, but the X is common in ancient Mideast alphabet pictographs which in ancient Hebrew represented "crossed sticks". I think it was the last alphabet letter and the basket letter in Hebrew was like the Indian for drum. One of the most ancient Hebrew or Phoenician stone calendars found had similar alphabet characters. Phoenician and ancient Hebrew were similar and the oldest is hard for the experts to tell apart sometimes. You find triangles, snakelike markings, other similar alphabet anomalies.

Anyway, DNA testing of the Cherokee tribe has turned up Hebrew tribe of Levi DNA, Phoenician, and Egyptian as well. There could be ancient and modern mixed in the symbolism for the American Indian pictographs. I know the diamond shape carving has been found in Mexico, have a photo of it.

Well, maybe only a couple characters similar, this is Hebrew but the Egyptians and Phoenicians had pictographs with a few similarities also.

The markings on the rock must mostly be different than the graphics with the meanings. The dome shape is ancient though, it is the rainbow, carvings in Spain of the rainbow man have it and most Native American tribes have Rainbow Man (Warrior) legends. Dome shape used to make the eagle symbol.

The dome shaped rainbow is also in the weather symbols. The snake like markings resemble the older Mideast shephard's crook pictograph. Then the parrallel sticks above and below the rainbow remind me of the staves on opposite sites of the alter furniture in ancient Judaism. The alter of incense had the poles on the corners rather than on the sides making it diamond shaped with 2 rings on the top (crown) to keep the coals from scattering.

The Hebrew pictograph was a fish for the letter X.

Don't really see any difference between American Indian Mountains and Semetic letter M.
