Mmm not the best start but it wasn't the best of locations either. Had one of those weekends when not much went right. Had to borrow my wifes car to go for a look with the new sdc and went to a beach not far from us and for my first find a Phillips head driver bit. Then a .22 cal bullet shell at around 300mm deep in sand. Then a live .22 long bullet and a live .22 short bullet and 2 22 cal bullet shells.
And 2 .22 cal leads
Oh well its a start. Next time I hope to go to a dpot where there has been gold found.... stay tuned.

Well it is working good, now you just need to get out to the Gold and listen for them faint ones,

Good luck.

John.

Hi Wishful,

Your doing great mate, I only seem to find hooks, sinkers and bottle caps when I took my SDC down to the local beach. I think you should only visit your beach in daylight looking at what you found. 8)

Cheers

I think Yorke peninsula is covered with spent bullets and shotgun pellets. There used to be lots of rabbits here and foxes. I obviosly can't count either there is 3 bullet leads there on the picture. I was in a gully that led out onto the beach. Unfortunatly there was that much junk in it that I gave up in disgust.

Those live bullets scare me, hit those with a pick and it could spell disaster and they are found in the gold fields too. Head to the gold fields better to learn the sounds on gold bearing ground.

Don't discount the SDC entirely as a beach detector.

Gary is a beach detecting specialist though & would most likely make an Aldi tector look like a beach slayer  Obviously you got it for the goldfields but if your nearer to the beach it's waterproof so you may as well have a go. Never know what you might find but being as sensitive as it is digging junk & very small junk will unfortunately be a frustrating side effect.
It's all good practice & fun (mostly :D ). Good luck.

Trouble is there are not too many gold bearing places nearby, the nearest I'm aware or is around 2 hours drive and I only had a short time to myself. I have used a borrowed sdc at Wedderburn and found a few bits of gold. It will be few weeks before I'm able to venture out further. Yes I did think it would have mucked up my day if I had hit one of those bullets in the wrong place.

I feel for you having a new machine and all, 2 hours isn't going to cut when you only have 1 spare. When you do get there I hope you come home with a rattle or 10

Second brief outing. Well I am super impressed with the Sdc in salt mode threshold on 3, I was walking between low and high tide marks and came to a spot that had course rubble so I thought I'd give it a swing over, I wasn't using headphones and was having trouble hearing over the sound of the small waves breaking anyway I heard a faint warbling noise differnt to normal iron noise. So boot scrape, louder mmm sound good pick out 6 inches louder 8 inches real loud, big rock dug out along with some smaller ones now down to around 13 inches dam must be close now, clay and pebbles water starting to come in down to pick handle deep 18 inches and finally pulled up a 5 cent piece. Badly a braided but clean.
Found another 5 cent a bit further up the beach at 10 inches.
I was stunned how good the sdc is.

Hey give me a break I had to steel it off the grandchild ? I thought I'd get a rev up for that.

Cleaned the 5c on the right a fair bit it was almost black. Both so badly worn I can't get the dates off them. I've no idea what the other wire thing is.

You gotta admit that is some serious depth on such a small coin, using an 8 inch coil, Lucky it weren't a 50c piece or you would still be digging,

Well done.

John.

Good on you Mike you won't regret it. I felt guilty spending that much on a detector but hey it's a great hobby and hobbies can get expensive. Fishing for example. You can't eat gold but with a good nugget you can buy heaps of fish.
When are you getting yours Mike ?

Great write up Whishfull, haven't used mine at the beach that depth is impressive well done
