Hi all thought I'd share some photos of my Murchison meteorite.
It was found in 1969 by my mother in Murchison it has been locked away ever since so I think its time for it to be seen by others :)
It weighs 125g still has a very strong smell and has quite a bit of fusion crust on it.
She was offered $1000 for it in 1969 so glad she didn't take it :)

Kawman it would be nice to have a look around but I think it's all private property around that area maybe some door knocking :)
I wonder how well it would have held up against the elements?

That smell is quite literally out of this world, strange.
Be nice to have a few bits tucked away, certainly not impossible to find more but such a well publicized sky rock coupled with the access issues where it landed I reckon you might have more luck looking for some a little less obvious. After the event many people collected up fragments, but I guess you never know your luck.

Wow ! You have one of the rarest type meteorites known ' a carbonaceous chondrite .
It has many different amino acids ~ the precursors for life .

The value is far greater then gold per gram , try & not handle it as that could affect the value .

Congratulations :)
