Hi all , we're in the process of making an opal mining bogger and are at the stage of fitting it out with the electrics and hydraulics . This machine will have an empty weight of approximately 500kg and will carry approx. 1-1.5 tonnes of dirt . I'm wondering if anyone on here has constructed one of these before and could suggest sizes of electric motor ,hydraulic pump and hydraulic motors we'll need for this project . Thanks in advance . Richo

G,day Richo Ive no experience with this type of thing but what are you going to power it with, 12,24,36v DC electric? Rubber tyred Machine or on tracks? Will it be lowered down a shaft or is the Mine connected to the outside by an adit or incline.

Perhaps try and find an old walker stacker type electric forklift. this might supply the necassary components for your machine. Id love to see some video of it in operation.

Opal mining boggers are more like a Dingo (mini digger) than a front end loader.

To get 1-1.5t lift you might need to look at 415v. One for sale on eBay was 240v but only had a lifting capacity of 500kg. I'm assuming that you have a lease so for 415v you'd have compliance to follow to like earth continuity protection systems.
You'd probably need to engineer it from the capacity you want back i.e. hydraulics to suit desired lift capacity > suitable hyd accumulator + drive motor to drive wheels > suitable hyd pump for total hyd system > suitable electric motor to drive hyd pump. Might be worth the cost of engineering input from a specialist?

So how did the bogger build end up?? I have had experience with bloggers but have never seen one that would carry 1.5 ton most would be lucky to carry 100kg I am just about to purchase one but would rather build one if I can find a good design. Anyone out there had any success with a diy build??
