Has anybody got any information on a old"would say late 70's" metal detector? It's a Fortune finder 8000, old black box, toggle switch on handle(auto,man&reset),3 switch (on/off, batt check, disc& ground cancel), 5 knobs (vol, depth, tune, disc, ground cancel) and a white back ground intensity meter. It also has a 10inch coil with blue sticker same as Whites 5000/D but says Fortunefinder made by Linear Electronics Australia, any other info on this would be much appreciated.

Very hard to find any reference to the mentioned detector other than a comparison in a copy of the Doug Stone/Bob Sargent/Sharman Stone book "Metal Detecting for Gold & Relics in Australia" from 1980. Maybe someone might still have a copy of this book?

There's a review in the old book, "METAL DETECTING FOR GOLD & RELICS IN AUSTRALIA". S/C ( Douglas Stone, Bob Sargent & Sharman Stone) Reprint 1980. 175pp. This book is the complete guide to metal detecting in Australia. It teaches you the techniques necessary for finding gold, coins and relics on the goldfields. it shows you exactly where to go and what to do with your finds. The 40 maps provides details to the Australian goldfields together with historical information on the gold nugget producing areas. This book also details the actual operation of the following models of metal detectors: C-Scope VLF/TR 2000-d; Compass Coin Magnum; Fisher 552-D VLF; FortuneFinder 8000; Garrett ADS Deepseeker; Bounty Hunter Red baron RB7 VLF SPD; White's Coinmaster 6000/D.

The book is available here: http://www.treasureenterprises.com/books, reports & maps/metal_detecting.htm
Said to be in excellent condition, $40.00.

Are you in Perth? From memory, Prospectors Patch in Midland has one on the wall.
