To end the already good weekend, I zipped off to the same reserve for an hour with the son, I found another Florin, 2 pennies, $7.20 in cash and a hallmarked silver spoon!
I've never had such a good amount of great stuff in one short detect. It normally takes a few hours to get that kind of find!

Good work Silver Fox

Got out for a few hours today with the kids. found a bunch of pennies and some modern coins, alas, no silver today :(

I did find a hat badge. I did a small amount of Googling and found something that looks exactly like it, however mine is bronze and theirs is brass... The have described it as a WW1 hat badge (http://www.quicksales.com.au/ad/wwi-brass-large-british-crown-hat-badge/4777825), would mine be the same?

Military i'm betting - I'm no expert but others here will have the necessary knowledge - i'll kick off......could be a sleeve or lapel badge depending on rank (non commissioned officer ie Regimental Sergeant Major / Warrant Officer or a full Major. http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-badges/rsm.htm

a fascinating find - well done that man :D

Another nice haul Fox.
Well done.
A day out with the kids is always a golden day :) :)

Wifey is off in Bali having the time of her life, I'm here with the kids. They are too young to leave at home by themselves, so I had to bribe them with McDonalds so I could get out for a few ours of detecting :p
I did manage to get my 9 year old daughter detecting with me, she helped me find the military badge, she was chuffed when she pulled it out!

Thanks Casper, the link you sent looks good. It gives me a start :p

no worries cobber - my missus also is away in the Netherlands for a month and i plan to hit the location of an old local tourist attraction that everyone has forgotten about - I'm hoping for some silver coins (fingers crossed), it was operational 1920s > 30s. And I'll also try and head to Gippsland for some panning work responsibilties permitting.

The Netherlands is a great place. I was there last year with the family and visiting relatives (I have Dutch background).

The tourist attraction sounds like it's own little gold mine, good luck with that!

I have got a little bit further with the badge. The type of crown is called a 'Tudor Crown', a crown for a king, I didn't know that!

Sounds good Sarn. My kids (son 7, daughter 10) love to eat constantly, so I'm sure they would be happy with that :)
